said deed of manumission now appears not to have been
recorded & I am disirous of securing to to the said Mulatto
woman named Honor her freedom according to the intent
& desire of the said Amey Howard deceased.
    Now therefore these presents Witnesseth that I Mary
Haines of the State & county aforesaid do hereby manumit
& set free my said mulatto slave named Honor her freedom
to commence from the fifth day of February in the year
Eighteen hundred & sixty six (1866) When she should be
Twenty five years old
    And these presents do further witness that in consideration
of Two hundred dollars paid me by Richard G Simpson
resident of said County & State I do hereby bargain
& sell to the said Richard G Simpson my said mulatto slave
named Honor for the residue of the term of her servitude
to wit:  for the term of six years from the fifth instant
The said mulatto being a slave for the term of six years
from the fifth instant & no longer & the said Mary Haines
being entitled to said slave for the whole of said term
    Witness our hands and seals this ninth day of February
in the year eighteen hundred sixty

State of Maryland Howard County to wit
I hereby certify that on this ninth day of February in the
year Eighteen hundred and sixty personally appeared before
the subscriber one of said state Justices of the peace
in and for said county Mary Howard Richard G Simpson
parties to the foregoing Instrument of writing & did acknowledge
the same to be their respective act  And at the same
time came also before me the said Richard G Simpson
the bargainee or vendee within named & made Oath in
due form of law that the Consideration therein mentioned
is true & bona fide as therein set forth

Received to be recorded on the 13th day of February 1860 at
11½ oclk Am same day recorded & Examined per
