administrators on or before the fourth day of
January Eighteen hundred and fifty six
I bind myself my heirs executors and administrators
jointly and firmly by these presents
sealed with my seal and dated this
third day of January Eighteen hundred and
fifty four whereas the above bounden Benjamin
Hearn by his promisary note duly
executed and bearing even date of the above
bond stands indebted to the said Tilghman
H. Iglehart in the just sum of two hundred
and twenty five dollars current money and
for the better securing the payments of the said
sum of two hundred and twenty five dollars
with legal interest for the same to the
said Tilghman H. Iglehart his heirs executors
administrators or assigns I the said Benjamin
Hearn hath agreed to execute this
bill of sale or instrument of writing Now
This Indenture witnesseth that for and  consideration
of the aforesaid sum of two hundred
and twenty five dollars current money owing
to the said Tilghman H. Iglehart and the
further consideration of the sum of one dollar
paid by the said Tilghman H. Iglehart to the said
Benjamin Hearn at and before the sealing and
delivery of these presents he the said Benjamin
Hearn hath granted bargained and sold
and by these presents doth grant bargain and
sell unto the said Tilghman H. Iglehart his heirs
executors administrators or assigns my negro
man named Basil aged about thirty years old
a slave for life to which said slave I will Warrant
and defend unto him the said Tilghman
H. Iglehart his heirs executors and administrators
Provided always and it is understood
by the parties to these presents that the said
Benjamin Hearn has the right to redeem
the said negro man Basil at any time
whenever he shall pay or cause to be paid to the
said Tilghman H. Iglehart his heirs executors
administrators or assigns the said sum of
two hundred and twenty five dollars current
money with legal interest thereon
without any deduction or abatement
