3 did grant bargain and sell unto the said John ORem his negro man named Basil a slave for life fo rhte consideration of hte sum of one hundred and thirty six dollars and fifty two cents current money as by reference to teh said Bill of sale will more fully appear and whereas the said Benjamin Hearn hath fully paid to the said John Orem the said full sum of one hundred and thirty six dollars and fifty ^two^ cents with legal interest thereon, Now This Indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of hte aforesaid sum of one hundred and thirty six dollars and fifty two cents with the interest thereon to him the said John Orem by the said Benjamin HEarn in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said John Orem hath agreed to execute this as a full release and he the said John Orem doth hereby release acquit exonerate and forever discharge and set over all Manner of claim that he might ^or^ could have to the said Negro Man Basil unto him the said Benjamin Hearn his heirs or assigns. In witness whereof the siad John Orem hath hereunto se this hand and seal the day and year above written signed sealed and delivered in presence of John Orem (seal) E. C. Lyons State of maryland Howard County to wit On this 3.th day of January 1854 before the subscriber a justice of the Peace for the county and state aforesaid personally appears John Orem and acknowledges the foregoing release to be his act and deed E. C. Lyons Received to be recorded on the 3.d day of January 1854 at 3 o'clock P.M. same day recorded and Examined per W. H. Worthington Clk
money the payment of which well and truly to be made and done to the said Tilghman H. Iglehart or his certain attorney heirs executors |
