Thomas Rowles
        Bill of Sale
                 to
Walter Dorsey
Know all men by these presents.  That I Thomas
Rowles of Howard County and state of Maryland
for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars
and thirty dollars lawful money of the United
States in hand paid by Walter Dorsey of Howard
County and state aforesaid which is in full payment of my negro slave
named John of Copper color he being twenty one years old on or about the
twenty second of December (1858) eighteen hundred and fifty eight to serve as
a slave until he is twenty five years old and no longer which negro is
a bona fide slave for the above named time the right and title of
said slave I forever warrant and defend against all claim or claims of
any kind whatsoever for the period above named mentioned
       In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this
eighth day of February eighteen hundred and fifty nine

Howard County State of Maryland SC.  Be it remembered
that on this eighth day of February 1859 before me a Justice of the Peace
for said County appeared Thomas Rowles and Walter Dorsey and
acknowledged the above Instrument of writing to be their act and
deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and at the
same time appeared before me Walter Dorsey the grantee in the said
Bill of sale named and made oath that the consideration set forth in said
Bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth

I WIlliam D Warfield of the County of
Howard and the State of Maryland of
the first part for and in consideration of the
sum of three hundred and Twenty five
dollars lawful money of the United States to me in hand paid
at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents by Oliver
M Warfield of Woodbury Baltimore County State of Maryland
of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged
have bargained and sold and by these presents do grant and
Convey bargain and sell unto the party of the second
part his executors administrators and assigns one negro
woman named Mary Snowden a slave for life to
have and to hold the said negro woman unto the
said party of the second part his Executors
