I hereby certify that Joseph Shiply Esquire before whom the
annexed affidavit and acknowledgment were made and who has thereto
subscribed his name was at the time of so doing a Justice of the
of the state of Maryland in and for Baltimore City duly commissioned
and sworn

Richard Davis
 This deed made this eighteenth day of February eighteen
hundred and fifty nine between Anne King
of Baltimore City state of Maryland and Richard
Davis of Howard County Maryland Witnesseth:
That said Ann King for and in consideration of the
                         sum of two hundred dollars hath transfered and assigned to said
                         Richard Davis her negro slave Charles for the space of seven
                         years from the date hereof at the end of which time said
                         slave is to revert to said Anne King her executors administrators
                         and assigns; and the said Richard Davis for himself his executors
                         and administrators covenants to take care of said slave
                         and return him to said Anne King her Executors Administrators
                         and assigns at the end of said term unless the said slave
                         during said time should die or escape without any negligence
                         on the part of said Davis his executors and administrators

                         State of Maryland Baltimore City to wit
                                                  On this Eighteenth day of February in the year
                         eighteen hundred and fifty nine before the subscriber a Justice

                         appeared Anne King and Richard Davis and acknowledged
                         the foregoing Instrument to be their act
