State of Maryland Howard County to wit:
On this twenty third day of December in the year one thousand eight
hundred and fifty eight personally appeared William Brown
of F. and made oath on the Holy Evangally of Almighty God that
the above Bill of Sale is a bona fide transaction as therein set forth

  Bill of Sale to
William Davis
In consideration of the sum of Fifty five dollars to me
in hand paid by William Davis of Howard County
I Lewis H Bennet of the City of Baltimore have
bargained and sold to said Davis the services of
                            my indented apprentice Charles Scott to serve the said William Davis for
                            during and until the 9.th day of March 1861.  He being the the same negro
                            boy bound to said Bennet recorded in the Orphans Court of Baltimore
                            City in Liber N. H. No 21 folio 97 &c and by said Court on 17th December
                            1858 authorising the sale and transfer of the services of said boy
                            Charles Scott to said Davis
                                                              In witness whereof I herein set my hand and
                            affix my seal this 14th day of January 1859

                            the presence of
                            Jos Shiply
                                  State of Maryland Baltimore City to Wit.  7.th day of Janury
                            1859.  Before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the state of
                            Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore personally appeared
                            Lewis H. Bennet and acknowledged the foregoing Instrument of
                            writing to be his act and deed and at the same time also approved
                            William Davis the grantee in the foregoing Bill of sale and made oath
                            on the Holy Evangally of Almighty God that the consideration set forth
                            in the said Bill of sale is just and true as therein set forth
