   hereby manumit and set free my
   negro slaves (who are my children)
   Thomas Mathews, Ellen Mathews,
   Basil Mathews jr. Ann Mathews
  Sarah Ann Mathews and Andrew
 Mathews their freedom to commence
from the date of these presents

Consideration of the Sum of four
hundred and thirty Seven dollars and
                           fifty five Cents paid me by Charles G. Linthicum of the
                           State and County aforesaid do hereby bargain and sell
                           to the Said Charles G. Linthicum the following property
                           to Wit:  One Negro Slave "John" aged eleven years one negro
                           Slave "Julia" aged about nine years one negro Slave
                           "Jim" aged about twenty two years one bay mare Fanny
                           one Buggy & one Set of single harness.  Witness my hand
                           and seal this twenty third day of November in the year
                           eighteen hundred and fifty eight
