    State of Maryland Howard County to Wit:
I hereby certify that on this ninth day of October in the year of
lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight before me the
subscriber a justice of the Peace for the state of Maryland in
and for the county aforesaid personally appeared the said Seth W.
Warfield administrator as aforesaid and party to the aforegoing
bill of sale and acknowledged the said Bill of sale to be his
act and deed.  In testimony whereof I hereto subscribe my name
one the day and year aforesaid

William Botrell
Know all men by these presents That
I Seth W. Warfield of Howard County
in the state of Maryland administrator
of James Harrison deceased for and in consideration
                   of the sum of Three hundred Dollars current money
                   to me in hand paid by William Botrill of the county and state
                   aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents
                   the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained
                   and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell
                   assign and deliver unto the said William Botrell his Executors
                   administrators and assigns one negro boy Joseph slave for life
                   of dark color and aged about six years  To Have and to Hold the
                   said negro boy Joseph to the said William Botrill his Executors
                   administrators the and assigns forever.  And I the said Seth W.
                   Warfield for myself my heirs executors and administrators the
                   said negro boy Joseph as a slave for life unto the said William
                   Botrill his executors administrators and assigns against me the
                   said Seth W. Warfield administrator as aforesaid my executors
                   and administrators and against all and every other person
                   and persons whomsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend
                   by these presents
                         In ^witness^ testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my
                   name and affixed my seal this ninth day of October A. D.
                   eighteen hundred and fifty eight
