paid by Frederick G Harman of Howard County in the said State at and before the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the said William Shipley do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Frederick G. Harman his executors administrators and assigns one negro Girl named Lydia who was about eight years of age on the 16th day of January 1847 as by reference had to a bill of sale executed on that day by F. G. Waters executor of the last will and testament of Charles Waters late of the City of Baltimore deceased to the said William Shipley for the aforesaid negro Girl will more fully and at large appear To have and to hold the aforesaid negro Girl named Lydia as aforesaid as a slave until the first day of May in the year eighteen hundred and seventy two and no longer and I the said William Shipley for myself my heirs executors and administrators the aforesaid negro Girl named Lydia unto the said Frederick G. Harman his executors administrators and assigns against me the said William Shipley my executors administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the said William Shipley and Frederick G. Harman have hereunto set their hands and seals this twenty fifth day of January in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty eight Signed sealed and delivered Wm Shipley (seal) in the presence of Wilson Phelps Fredk G. Harman (seal) State of Maryland Anne Arundel County sct Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this twenty fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland in and for Anne Arundel County aforesaid personally appeared William Shipley party grantor named in the foregoing Instrument of writing or bill of sale ^and doth acknowledge the said Instrument of writing for bill of sale^ to be his act and deed.
