for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and sixty
dollars lawful money of the United States in hand paid by
Basil A. Owings at or before the sealing and delivery of these
presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have
granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant
bargain and sell and deliver unto the said Basil A.
Owings his executors administrators and assigns all
my right title & interest in and to all the crop raised and
also the crop now standing or growing on the farm
rented of Basil Crapster by the said Basil A. Owings
and also one Brown horse (Sam)      To have and to
hold the said described property to the said Basil A.
Owings his executors administrators and assigns forever;
And I the said James Owings for myself heirs executors
and administrators the said described or mentioned goods
Chattels & effects unto the said Basil A. Owings his executors
administrators and assigns against me the said James
Owings my executors and administrators and against all
and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and
will warrant and forever defend by these presents
       In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand
and seal this 23.d day of September Eighteen hundred
and fifty seven

          in the presence of                  James Owings   (seal)
          Sam.l F. Simmons

State of Maryland Howard County SS.
       Be it remembered that on this twenty third day of
September 1857 before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace
for said County appears James Owings and acknowledges
the above Instrument of writing to be his act and deed
according to the true intent and meaning thereof.  And
at the same time and place also appeared before me
Basil A. Owings the grantee in the said Bill of Sale
named and made oath that the consideration set forth
in the said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as stated
                            Sworn before   Sam.l F. Simmons
Rec.d to be recorded on the 2.d day of October 1857 same
day recorded & examined per
