247 fifty seven between William Mathews of Howard County in the State of Maryland of the one part and Rob.t H Archer Esq of the aforesaid State and County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said W.m Mathews hath placed and bound out and by these presents doth place and bind out his son Charles Mathews who on the fifteenth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & sixty four will be of the age of twenty one years as an apprentice to the said Robt H. Archer to learn to labour. The said Rob.t H. Archer doth bind himself to furnish the said Charles Matthews with bed & board with suitable every day clothing and also furnish the said Charles Mathews with a suitable suit for the sabbath and if the said Charles Mathews shall well & faithfully perform all the duties and otherwise conduct himself as a good & faithful servant till the end of the said term of years then the said Rob.t H. Archer will furnish him the said Cha.s with a suitable freedom suit of clothing In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands & seals this twenty third day of September Eighteen hundred & fifty seven Test: his W.m Allen William x Mathews (seal) mark Rob H Archer (seal) Howard County State of Maryland to wit: Personally appeared before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in & for said County and State aforesaid and acknowledged the foregoing Indenture to be their free act & deed W.m Allen J. partyes are bound for me as security do hereby bargain and sell to the said Isaac Burten Sen.r and Isaac Burten Jun.r all of my right title intrust and claim of the within property namely in and to one bay Mare and Colt towo cows two heffers, one Carrage and harness Witness my hand and seal |
