 Indenture of Apprentice
    Nelly Cromwell
              to
    Edward N. Trimble
 This Indenture made this
fourteenth day of May in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and fifty seven between
Nelly Cromwell a free mulatto of
                            Howard County in the State of Maryland of the one part and
                            Edward N. Trimble of Balt.o County and State aforesaid
                            of the other part            Witnesseth that the said Nelly
                            Cromwell hath placed and bound out and by these presents
                            doth place and bind out her daughter Mary Ellen Cromwell
                            who on the twelfth day of July next will be of the age of
                            fourteen years as an apprentice to the said Edward N.
                            Trimble to learn the art and mystery of housework generally
                            after the manner of an apprentice; the said Mary Ellen
                            to dwell with and serve the said Edward N. Trimble from
                            the date of these presents until the twelfth day of of July in
                            the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty one when
                            the said Mary Ellen shall attain to the age of eighteen
                            years during all which time and term the said Mary Ellen
                            shall the said Trimble well and faithfully serve in all such
                            lawfull business as the said Mary Ellen shall be put unto
                            by her said master according to the power and ability of her
                            the said Mary Ellen and honestly and obediently in all things
                            shall behave herself towards her said master and honestly
                            and orderly towards the rest of the family of the said Edward
                            N. Trimble            And the said Edward N. Trimble or his
                            part doth hereby promise covenant and agree to teach and
                            instruct the said apprentice or cause her to be taught and
                            instructed in the art trade or calling of housekeeping by the
                            best way or means he can and shall well and faithfully
                            find and provide for the said apprentice good and sufficient
                            meat drink clothing lodging and other necessaries fit
                            and convenient for such an apprentice during the term
                            aforesaid and at the expiration thereof shall give unto
                            the said apprentice two suits of wearing apparel one
                            suitable for Sundays and the other for working days
                                     In testimony whereof the said Nelly Cromwell
                            and Edward N. Trimble have hereunto interchangeably set
                            their hands and seals the day and year first above written
