State of Maryland Howard county to wit:  Be
it remembered and it is hereby certified that
on this third day of June in the year eighteen
hundred and fifty six before the subscriber
a justice of the Peace of the state of maryland
in and for the said Howard county personally
appeared Myers Pierce and seth W. Warfield the
Mortgagees named in the aforegoing mortgage
Bill of sale and made oath according to law
that the consideration therein stated is true
and bona fide as therein set forth and at
the same time appeared Alexander L. Mackey
the mortgagor named in said Mortgage bill
of sale and acknowledged the same to be
his act and deed

  Indenture to
Remus R. Hobbs
This Indenture Made this
thirty first day of May
Eighteen hundred and fifty
six between John W. Shorts
of Howard county in the state of Maryland
of the one part and Remus R. Hobbs
of the said county and state of the other
part witnesseth that the said John W.
shorts has placed and bound out and by
these presents does place and bind out
his son Thomas Shorts who on the sixth
day of February next will be twelve years
of age unto the said Remus R. Hobbs to
wok with and upon the farm of said
Remus R. Hobbs after the manner of
an apprentice the said Thomas Shorts
to dwell with and serve the said Remus
R. Hobbs from the date of these
presents unto the sixth day of February
Eighteen hundred and sixty one
when the said Thomas Shorts will be of
