State of Maryland Howard county sct
    on this Eighteenth day of March Eighteen
hundred and fifty six before me the subscriber
one of the Justices of the Peace in
and for the said county appears John
Elder and acknowledged the aforegoing
writing to be his act and deed according
to the purport true intent
and Meaning thereof and the act of
assembly in such case made and provided
                              John Ridgely (of Jno)

State of Maryland How.d County to wit
    On this eighteenth day of March Eighteen
hundred and fifty six before the
subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and
for the county aforesaid personally
appeared Rebecca Elder and Made
oath on the Holy Evangelly of allmighty
God that John Elder who executed the
foregoing Instrument was before and
at the time of the execution thereof
justly and bonifiedly indebted to her the
said Rebecca Elder in the sum of three
hundred dollars and for which said
sums the said Instrument is intended
to secure
    sworn to before     John Ridgely (of Jno)
Received to be recorded on the 18.th day of
March 1856 at ¼ past 4 o'clock P. M. same
day recorded and examined per

    Know all men by these
  presents that I John W.
 Shorts of Howard County
in the state of maryland for
and in consideration of the sum of forty
five Dollars current money to me in
hand paid by William Mathews of
Howard county in the said state at
& before the sealing and delivering of
these presents the receipt whereof
I the said John W. Shorts do hereby
acknowledge have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do
