                                                          Maryland Dorchester County to wit:      On the 29th day of August
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three personally appeared before me, a
Justice of the peace in and for said County the within named Francis J. Henry and acknowledged
the within Bill of sale to be his act and deed according to the purport, true intent and meaning
of the same, and at the same time Came before me Sarah Baynard within mentioned, and made oath
on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the Consideration set forth in this bill of sale, is true
and bona fide, as therein set forth, according to the Act of Assembly made and provided

Negro Jane      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Manumission
paid   from xd   was received and recorded on the 3d day of October 1853 to wit
John Newton                         To all whom it may Concern, be it Known, that I John Newton
                      of Dorchester County, in the state of Maryland, for divers good Causes and
Considerations, me thereunto moving, have released from slavery, liberated manumitted and
set free, also at the same ^time^ received the sum of thirty dollars the receipt I do hereby acknowledge
and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate, manumit, and set free, my negro woman
named Jane, being of the age of thirty seven years, and able to work and gain a sufficient
livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman, named Jane, I do declare
to be henceforth free.      Witness my hand and seal this 28 day of september 1853

          Maryland Dorchester County to wit      On this 28.th day of september ^1853^ personally
appears John Newton party to the within instrument of writing, before me the subscriber
a Justice of the peace for the state of Maryland, for the said County, and acknowledges
the same to be his act and deed, for the purposes within mentioned, and the negro woman
within named, to be henceforth manumitted and discharged, from all services to him
or to any claiming under him, and to be free and manumitted, according to the acts of
assembly in such Cases made and provided         Acknowledged before

Negro Sophia Green      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following
alias Sophia Brown        manumission was received and recorded on the 3d October 1853 to wit:
    √   from   xd                    To ^all^ whom it may Concern be it Known that I D.r Anthony C. Thompson
Dr A. C. Thompson       of Caroline County in the state of Maryland for divers good Causes and Considerations
me thereunto moving have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents
do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named sophia Green
or Brown being of the age of thirty years and able to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance
and her the said negro woman named sophia Green or Brown I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted
and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors or administrators forever this 9.th day      July
