61 State of Maryland Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bond was received from x.d and recorded on the 12.th day of July 1853 to wit (stamp) William Creighton Know all men by these presents that we William Creighton ( six ) Trea.r Primary School (Dollars) William Rea & John R. Creighton of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland are held and bound unto the state of Maryland in the full and Just sum of fifteen Thousand dollars Current money of the united states to be paid to the state of Maryland which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and every of us our and every of our heirs executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole Jointly and severally by these preceps, sealed with our seals and dated this June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three The Condition of the above obligation are such that if the above bounden William Creighton shall well and truly discharge the duties of Treasurer of primary schools of Dorchester County according to law then the above obligation shall be void, otherwise it is to be and remain in full force and virtue in law Signed in the presence of William Creighton (seal) W.m Rea (seal) By the County Commissioners Dorchester John R. Creighton (seal) County July 7th 1853 Approved by order Wm Rea Clerk Com D Coty Charles Hooper Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of sale was received paid from and recorded on the 19.th day of July 1853 James Edmondson Know all men by these presents, That I James Edmonson of Dorchester County, and state of Maryland, for and in Consideration of the sum of Two hundred and seventy five dollars lawful money of the united states, in hand paid by Charles Hooper of the City of Baltimore state aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged: Have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, unto the said Charles Hooper his Executors, administrators and assigns, my negro woman named Susan Hooper a slave for life. To Have and To Hold the said described negro woman Susan Hooper to the said Charles Hooper his Executors, administrators and assigns forever and I the said James Edmonson for myself my heirs, executors and administrators, the said negro woman Susan Hooper unto the said Charles Hooper his executors, administrators and assigns, against me the said James Edmonson my Executors and administrators, and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of July Eighteen Hundred and fifty Three his signed sealed and delivered James x Edmonson (seal) in the presence of mark Thomas E. Travers Dorchester County sct Be it remembered, that on this 19.th day of July 1853, before the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace for said County appears James Edmonson and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed, according to the true intent and meaning thereof, At the same time also appeared Charles Hooper grantee named in the beforegoing bill of sale, and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God, that the Consideration therein set forth is true and bona fide as set forth.
