50 On this fifth day of May in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty three personally appeared Thomas Breerwood Executor of James Moore deceased and Nicols Wright before the subscriber one of the state of Maryland's Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid and acknowledged the foregoing bill of sale or instrument of writing to be their act and deed, according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such Cases made and provided And I also further Certify that Nicols Wright party vendee named in the foregoing bill of sale personally appered before me and made oath in due form of Law that the Consideration mentioned in the foregoing bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged and Sworn before me James Rea Received May 5th 1853 of Nicols Wright the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale F. J. Henry Clk Richard Henry Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following manumission √ from x.d was received and recorded on the 6th day of May 1853 to wit Samuel M. Brohawn To all whom it may concern, be it Known that I, Samuel Brohawn of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland, for divers good Causes and Considerations me thereunto moving have released from slavery, liberated manumitted and set free, and by these presents do hereby release from slavery, liberate manumit and set free, from and after the Eighteenth day of October next ensuing my negro man, named Richard Henry he being about the age of thirty Eight years and able to work and gain sufficient livelihood and maintenance, and him the said negro man named Richard Henry I do declare from and after the said Eighteenth day of october next ensuing to be free, manumitted and discharged from all manner of servitude or service to me my Executors or administrators forever In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this third day of May, in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty three Signed sealed and delivered Samuel M. Brohawn (seal) in the presence of us T. Jefferson Charles Corkran Be it Remembered, that on this third day of May personally appears Samuel Brohawn party to the within instrument of writing, before me the subscriber, a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland for the said County, and acknowledges the same to be his act and deed for the purposes within mentioned Acknowledged before Charles Corkran James L. Colston Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of sale was √ from xd received and recorded on the 12th day of May 1853 to wit William C. Huffington Know all men by these presents that I William C. Huffington Executor Exr of Elizabeth R. Rawleigh of Elizabeth R. Rawleigh late of Dorchester County deceased, by virtue of an order of the orphans Court of said County, and for and in Consideration of the sum of Seven hundred and fifty dollars Current money to him in hand paid by James L. Colston of said County of said County at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said William C. Huffington Executor aforesaid has bargained and sold, Conveyed and transferred, and by these presents does bargain and sell Convey and transfer unto the said James L. Colston his heirs and assigns forever, all the right title Claim and demand of the said Elizabeth R. Rawleigh her heirs and assigns of in to and out of one negro man named Noah aged about nineteen years To Have and To Hold the Delivered to James L. Colston Sept.r 5th 1853 |
