that on this Seventy sixth day of April in the year eighteen hundred and fifty three personally appeared
William C. Huffington Exor of Elizabeth R. Rawleigh dec.d before the subscriber one of the state of
Maryland's Justices of the peace for the County aforesaid, and acknowledged the foregoing bill of sale or instrument
of writing to be his act and deed, according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the Acts of assembly
in such Cases made and provided.  And I also further Certify that James L. Colston party vendee named
in the foregoing bill of sale personally appeared before me and made oath in due form of law that the Consideration
mentioned in the foregoing bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth.

Received May 12.th 1853 of James L. Colston the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of sale

John Reed Edward M. Morris                              Know all men by these Presents, that we      (Stamp)
          William Howeth              John Reed Edward M. Morris & William Howeth of               (   15  )
                                                Dorchester County are held and firmly bound unto the state of  (Cents)
Maryland in the full and Just sum of three hundred dollars Current money of the united states to be
paid to the said state or its Certain Attorney, to the which payment well and truly to be made and done,
we bind ourselves our heirs Executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole jointly and severally firmly
by these presents, Sealed with our seals and dated this Nineth day of May eighteen hundred and fifty
three

             Whereas the Commissioners for Dorchester County by virtue of a supplement to an act entitled an
additional supplement to the act entitled an act to regulate ferries have Contracted with the said John
Reed to keep the ferry over the North west Fork of the Nanticoke river Commonly Called the
Crotchers Ferry and agree to allow the said John Reed the sum of Two hundred and Seventy five
dollars Current money for the same      Now the Condition of the above obligation is such that if
the above bounden John Reed shall faithfully and diligently keep the said ferry over the North
West Fork of the Nanticoke river Commonly Called the Crotchers Ferry from daylight to daylight
from the first of November to the first of March and from an hour before to an hour after light for
the residue of the year Commencing on the Tenth day of May 1853 and ending twelve months thereafter
and shall keep Constantly and in good order a scow that will safely Carry six passangers and their
horses at one trip with an able bodied and skillful hand to attend the ferry aforesaid and shall not charge
or receive any greater prices for ferriage than what is allowed by law; Then the above obligation to be
void otherwise of full force and virtue in law                                                         his
