47 the said Nancy Jones widow of Denwood her executors administrators and assigns against me the said John W. Woolford my Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In Testimony whereof the said John W. Woolford and Nancy Jones widow of Denwood have hereunto set their hands and seals on this 2 th day of April in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty three In presence of her Charles Turner James Craig Nancy x Jones (seal) mark John W. Woolford (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit on this 2 th day of April Eighteen hundred and fifty three before me one of the Justices of the Peace in and for said state and County personally John W Woolford and acknowledg the foregoing instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in such Case made and provided James Craig J. P. On this 2d day of April Eighteen hundred and fifty three personally appeared Nancy Jones and Oath Oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God that the above bill of sale is a true and bona fide bill of sale and the Consideration therein mentioned is Just and true set fourth in said paper Sworn James Craig J. P. Bannaman Mills Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was Paid from received and recorded on the 26th day of April 1853 to wit Francis P Phelps This Instrument of writing made this twenty sixth day of April Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty three between Francis P. Phelps of Dorchester County and state of Maryland of the one part and Bannaman Mills of the Same County and state of the other part witnesseth that the said Francis P Phelps for and in Consideration of the sum of Three hundred and Thirty Three dollars Current money to him in hand paid by the said Bannaman Mills hath bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Bannaman Mills a negro man named Joseph Higgins aged about Twenty four years and to serve the said Bannaman Mills untill the 31st day of May Eighteen hundred and sixty three and then to be free according to, and in agreement of the last will and testament of his late master Noah Richardson for and in Consideration of the premises above mentioned the said Francis P Phelps garrantees the title to the said negro man and warrants him to be a slave for the period above specified In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals on the day and date above written Test Charles Corkran Francis P. Phelps (seal) Bannaman Mills (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this twenty sixth day of April Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty three before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the state of Maryland and for the County aforesaid personally appears Francis P Phelps barganor and vender in the above instrument of writing he being known to me to be the party mentioned therein and doth acknowledge the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed And also on the same day personally appears Bannaman Mills the barganee or vendee and makes oath that the Consideration expressed in the said Instrument of writing was bona fide & truly paid as therein set forth In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand on the day and year first above written Charles Corkran J. P. Received 26th day of April 1853 of Bannaman Mills the sum of One Dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry Clk Delivered April 26th 1853 to Bannaman Mills |
