46 1853 April 8.th Received of John D. Parker the sum of on dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry Clk Silas Woodland Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was received and √ from xd recorded on the 14.th day of April 1853 To wit Thomas Jones Whereas it was the desire of my Father in law Thos Jones that he negro woman Mary a Slave for life should be free in her old age on account of her faithful services to him and he did on the 30th day of November 1850 Convey her to me with other property in Consideration of love and affection with the full Confidence on his part that I would in due time Consent to her freedom and whereas I have not since the death of Said Thomas Jones in view of his wish in regard to her Exacted any service to me from her and she is now desirous of purchasing her freedom through her father in law Silas Woodland a free man by her labor for him Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Jones of Wm of Dorchester County state of Maryland in Consideration of the premises and of the faithful services of Said Mary to me during the life of her former Master Thomas Jones of John and for my regard & affection for her as a Servant and also in Consideration of the sum of Twenty five dollars to me in hand paid by said Silas Woodland have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver to the said Silas Woodland The said the said negro woman Mary aged about forty Seven years To Have and To Hold the said Mary to him the said Silas Woodland his Executors administrators and assigns against me my Executors administrators & against every other person or person whomsoever In witness whereof we have hereunto set our names and affixed our seal this 30th day of March 1853 James Craig Thomas Jones (seal) John W. Woolford his Silas x Woodland (seal) mark State of Maryland Dorchester County To wit: On this 30th day of March 1853 before me one of the Justice of the peace in and for said County appeared Thos. Jones and acknowledge the foregoing instruments of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and the act of assembly in Such Case made and provided James Craig J. P. On this thirtieth day of March 1853 personally appeared Silas Woodland and made oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God that the above bill of sale is a true and bona fide bill of sale and the Consideration therein mentioned is Just and true as set forth in said paper James Craig J. P. Nancy Jones Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of sale was √ from x.d received and recorded on the 21st day of April 1853 to wit John W. Woolford Know all men by these presents that I John W. Woolford of Dorchester County and state of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of one hundred Doz Current money to me in hand paid by Nancy Jones widow of Denwood and resi of County and state aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said John W. Woolford do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Nancy Jones widow of Denwood, her executors administrators and assigns one negro boy by the name of Henry Macer said Henry Macer being now Seven years Six months and Seventeen days of age and to serve the said Nancy Jones her executors administrators or assigns untill he be forty years of age which expires on the ninth of May in the year eighteen hundred and eighty five at which time he is to go out free and Clear of all servitude To Have and To Hold the said negro boy Henry Macer above bargained and sold to the said Nancy Jones widow of Denwood her executors administrators and assigns during the said time of servitude and no longer, And I the said John W. Woolford for myself my heirs executors and administrators, the said negro boy Henry Macer unto |
