40 above Bill of Sale is a true and bona fide Bill of Sale and the Consideration therein mentioned is just and true as set forth in said paper James Craig J. P. Received February 8.th 1858 of William Leonard the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry Clk Henry C. Elliott Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was received √ from xd and recorded on the 14th day of February 1853 to wit: George Applegarth Know all men by these presents I George Applegarth of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of one Hundred Dollars to me in hand paid by Henry C. Elliot of the Same County and state aforesaid have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant Bargain and ^and^ sell unto the said Henry C. Elliott his heirs and assigns a negro woman that is to say woman named Mary Ann to serve untill twenty eighth day of June Eighteen hundred and fifty seven all the increase of the said Mary ann the males to serve untill thirty five years ^years^ old and the females to serve till thirty years of age To Have and To Hold the aforesaid negro and increase as above described Bargained and sold unto the Said Henry C. Elliot his heirs Executors Administrators or assigns against me the said George Applegarth my heirs executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In testimony whereof we George Applegarth & Henry C. Elliot have hereunto set our Hands and seals this 12th day of February 1853 Signed sealed and delivered George Applegarth (seal) in presence of us Henry C. Elliot (seal) Samuel Abbott James H. Radcliffe State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On this 12th day of Feby 1853 personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for said County the within named George Applegarth and acknowledged the within Bill to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same and at the same time personally appeared Henry C. Elliot party grantee named in the within Bill of Sale and made that the Consideration sett forth are true and bona fide as therein sett forth Samuel Abbott J. P. Deld to Edwd Thomas Decr 12th 1853 William D. Penton Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale was Hester C. Penton received and recorded on the 15th day of February 1853 to wit: √ to xd Know all men by these presents that we William D. Penton and Hester Jacob Covey C. Penton his wife of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the Sum of six hundred and fifty dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Jacob Covey of Caroline County and State of Maryland at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof we the said William D Penton and Hester C Penton his wife do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Jacob Covey his heirs, executors administrators & assigns the following negroes, slaves for life, namely negro woman Rachael aged about twenty two years, negro girl Leah aged about three years a negro Boy Andrew aged about two years an infant girl aged about three months named Mariah To Have and To Hold the above described negroes namely Rachael Leah Andrew & Mariah, above bargained and sold or intended so to be unto the said Jacob Covey his heirs executors administrators and assigns forever. And the said William D. Penton & Hester C. Penton his wife for ourselves our heirs |
