Amos Bowdle       Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Mortgage
  Exd  from            Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 3d day of January 1855 to wit
Hugh Maguire             This Indenture made this twenty Second day of October in the year of our
Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty one between Hugh Maguire of Dorchester County
State of Maryland of the one part and Amos Bowdle of Church Creek Dorchester County State of
Maryland of the other part whereas the said Hugh Maguire owes and stands Justly indebted
in Judgments to the said Amos Bowdle in the sum of One Hundred and Seventy Six dollars and
Seventy five Cents Current money, and to Secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents
Now This Indenture witnesseth that the said Hugh Maguire for and in Consideration of the premises
and of the Sum of Five Dollars Current money to him in hand paid by the said Amos Bowdle
at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents; the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged
hath granted, bargained, and Sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, unto the
said Amos Bowdle his executors, administrators and assigns, all and Singular the negroes
or Chattels hereinafter particularly mentioned and expresses  That is to say One negro woman named
Fanny, Forty years of age, and one negro boy named John Anthony, aged Fourteen years both
of the said negroes slaves for life  To Have and To Hold all and Singular the said negroes Fanny
and John Anthony unto the said Amos Bowdle his executors, administrators and assigns, to his
and their own use and behoof  Provided always, and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning
of these presents, that if the said Hugh Maguire do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be
paid, unto the said Amos Bowdle his executors, administrators or assigns, the full sum of one Hundred
and Seventy Six dollars and Seventy five Cents Current money with legal interest for the same
then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing ^herein^ Contained to the Contrary notwithstanding
and that he the said Hugh Maguire for himself his heirs, executors, or administrators shall and
will well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Amos Bowdle his executors, administrators
or assigns the Said Sum of of One Hundred and Seventy Six Dollars and Seventy five
Cents Current money together with interest for the same after the date aforesaid

       In witness whereof the said Hugh Maguire hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day
and year first within written
Witness Presents                                                                        Hugh Maguire   (seal)

          State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit:      Be it remembered that on this twenty
Second day of October in the year of our Lord Eighteen Hundred and fifty one before me the
Subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the Said State in and for Dorchester County personally
appears Hugh Maguire party grantor in the within Instrument and acknowledged
the same as his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned and according to the
Acts of Assembly in Such Case made and provided   And at the same time and place also appeared
before me the Justice of the peace aforesaid Amos Bowdle the mortgagee in the said indenture or
Bill of sale, and made oath that the Consideration set forth in the said mortgage Bill of
Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth

Received the 24th October 1851 the Sum of Ten Cents in lieu of a Stamp on this mortgage
