32 & administrators Covenant & agree to & with the said William J. Jones his executors & administrators & assigns to warrant & defend the said negro boy named John Anthony Brown against me my heirs executors administrators, & against all persons whatsoever claiming or to claim in any wise an interest or right in said boy, I have hereby put the said William J. Jones in full possession of said negro boy by delivering the same unto him Witness our hands and seals the 30th day of November Anno Domini Eighteen hundred and fifty two Hugh Maguire (seal) William J. Jones (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County Sct: Be it remembered & it is hereby Certified that on this thirtyeth day of November Anno Domini Eighteen hundred & fifty two before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in & for Dorchester County personally appeared Hugh Maguire, he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as & professing to be the party grantor to the foregoing instrument of writing and doth acknowledge the said instrument of writing to be his act & deed, and at the same time appears William J. Jones the grantee, or purchaser therein mentioned, & makes Oath that the Consideration therein expressed is true and bona fide as therein set forth In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name on the day and year aforesaid James Craig J. P. Rigby Valiant Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill paid Exd from of Sale was received and recorded on the 15th day of December 1852 to wit William Thomas Know all men by these presents that I William Thomas of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the Sum of three hundred & fifty dollars to me in hand paid by Rigby Valiant of Talbot County in said state at or before the Sealing & delivery of these presents, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have granted bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargained and sell unto the said Rigby Valiant his executors administrators and assigns, my negro woman Emma and her male child William as Slaves for life To Have and To Hold the said negroes Emma and William to the said Rigby Valiant his executors administrators and assigns forever; and I the said William Thomas for myself my heirs Executors and administrators, all and singular the said negroes Emma and William, unto the said Rigby Valiant his executors administrators and assigns, against me my heirs Executors and administrators and against all persons, whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In testimony whereof I the said William Thomas hath hereto set my hand and Seal this sixteenth day of December Eighteen hundred and fifty two Signed sealed and delivered William Thomas (seal) in the presence of Noah Abbott Charles Corkran State of Maryland Dorchester County Sct: On this sixteenth day of December Eighteen hundred and fifty two personally appeared before me a Justice of the peace of the state and for the County aforesaid William Thomas and acknowledged the above Bill of sale to be his act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned And at the same time the said Rigby Valiant appeared before me and made oath that the consideration set forth in said Bill of sale, is true and bona fide as therein set forth Noah Abbott J.
