Whereas the County Commissioners for Dorchester County by virtue of a supplement to the act entitled "an additional supplement to the act to regulate Ferries have contracted with the said John Brohawn to keep the Ferry over Fishing Creek from Meekins' Neck to Hoopers Island and agree to allow the said John Brohawn the sum of Two hundred & fifty Dollars Current money for the same. Now the Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden John Brohawn shall well faithfully & diligently keep the said Ferry over Fishing Creek from Meekins' Neck to Hoopers Island from the dawn of day light in the morning until the expiration of say light in the morning each day from the first day of January 1857 until the first day of January 1858 and shall keep constantly and in good order a Scow that will safely carry three passengers and three Horses at one trip with an able bodied and skilful hand to attend the said Ferry and shall not charge or receive any greater price for services than what is allowed by Law. Meekins (seal) execution of this Bond 1857 April 14 The above Bond & sureties approved by the County Commissioners for Dorchester County By Order Josiah Jump Clk to County Commissioners Thomas Hughlett Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Mortgage √ From xd Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 5.th day June 1857 Charles Baker & We Charles Baker and Elwell Parks of State of Maryland Elwell Parks being about to remove a portion of timber from the land of Thomas Hughlett in Dorchester County embraced in the contract of Charles Baker and Thomas Hughlett of the thrd day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty seven which by said contract was to be paid for before removal and being desirous to indemnify further and save harmless said Thomas Hughlett for such removal of a load of said Timber amounting to the sum of Six Hundred Dollars Current money do hereby bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Hughlett the following property to wit: five yoke and teams of Oxen three Carts and all Gear fixture and appurtenances to the same belonging being now on the lands of Thomas Hughlett in Dorchester County where the aforesaid timber is being cut and removed under the contract before referred to Provided that if we the said Charles Baker and Elwell Parks shall pay to the said Thomas Hughlett the said sum of Six Hundred dollars Current money with the interest thereon from the date of these presents being the amount of timber about to be removed as aforesaid on or before the first day of July Eighteen Hundred and fifty seven said contract in all other respects wholly unchanged and in full force then these presents shall be void.
