253 James H. Bradshaw Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that √ From xd the following Bill of Sale was recorded on the 13th James A. Byns & wife day of January 1857 to wit We Thomas A Byns & Francis E. Byns his wife of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland in consideration of Three Hundred Dollars paid us by James H. Bradshaw of the same county and State aforesaid do hereby bargain and sell to the said James H Bradshaw a negro girl called Mary Ann aged about fifteen years a slave for life. Witness our hands and seals this twelfth day of January Eighteen Hundred and fifty seven Test J. A. Byns (seal) Fannie E. Byns (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit I hereby certify that on this twelfth day of January Eighteen Hundred and fifty seven before the subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for the County aforesaid personally appeared James A. Byns and Francis E Byns his wife and did each acknowledge the aforegoing Bill of Sale to be there respective act at the same time & place aforesaid personally appeared before me Justice as aforesaid James H. Bradshaw vendee within named and made oath in due form of law that the consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and bona-fide as therein set forth acknowledge & sworn before Sam.l W Lecompte J. P. John Brannock & Be it remembered and it is hereby certified Emily Brannock his wife that the following Manumission was √ To xd recorded on the 15th day of January 1857 Thomas Ennalls negro We John Brannock & Emily Brannock of Dorchester County and State of Maryland do hereby manumit and set free our negro man slave Thomas Ennalls is about Forty years of age and sound in body and mind and able to gain a livelihood. His freedom to commence from the day of these presents as witness our hands and seals this 14th day of January 1857 her Test C W Brerewood Emily x Brannock (seal) Samuel H Brerewood mark John Brannock (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 14th day of January 1857 before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for the State & County aforesaid personally appeared John Brannock & Emily Brannock his wife and did each respectively acknowledge the above deed of manumission to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning |
