A Hambleton and Thomas E Hambleton Jr. trading under the name & firm of John A. Hambleton &
Brother of Baltimore City Maryland in the sum of Three Hundred and thirty one Dollars and eighty six
Cents with interest from the seventh day of August Eighteen Hundred and fifty six in Consideration
thereof do hereby bargain and sell to the said John A Hambleton and Thomas E Hambleton Jr.
trading under the name & firm of John A Hambleton & Brother the following property one negro
man named Thomas aged about Twenty three years a slave to serve until forty years of age.  Provided,
that if I the said Matthias Travers shall pay to the said John A. Hambleton and Thomas E.
Hambleton Jr trading under the name and firm of John A Hambleton & Brother the said sum of
Three Hundred and thirty one Dollars & Eighty six Cents with the interest thereon on or before the first
day of October next then these presents shall be void.  Witness our hands and seals this Eighth
day of August Eighteen Hundred and fifty six

before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for Dorchester County aforesaid Matthias Travers
& Tho.s E Hambleton Jr. one of the firm of John A. Hambleton & Bro and acknowledged the foregoing
Bill of Sale to be their act.

acknowledged the above assignment to be their act and deed

State of Maryland Baltimore City sct:   I hereby Certify that Augustine H. Penington Esquire
before whom the annexed acknowledgments were made and who has thereto subscribed his name was at
the time of so doing a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore
duly Commissioned and sworn.
                In Testimony Whereof, I hereto set my hand and affix the seal of the Superior Court of
   (seal)     Baltimore City this 13 day of October A. D. 1856.
