Peace State of Maryland Dorchester county To wit I hereby certify that on this 21st day of July personally appeared before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for Dorchester county aforesaid Isaac J. T. Harris and acknowledged the foregoing bill of Sale to be his act: And at the Same time also appeared Saml. W. Lecompte the grantee in the foregoing bill of Sale and made Oath that the consideration set forth in the Said bill of Sale is Just & true as therein set forth Charles Corkran J. P. Edward C. Johnson Be it remembered and it is hereby certified from √ xd that the following Bill of Sale was received Sophia C. Dunnock and recorded on the 23.d day of July 1856 to wit: Know all men by these presents that I Sophia C. Dunnock of Baltimore City Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and twenty five dollars current money to me in hand paid by Edward C. Johnson of Dorchester county and State aforesaid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, Sold and delivered, and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and deliver unto the Said Edward C. Johnson my two negro girls Caroline aged four years and Mary Jane aged two years Slaves for life which said Slaves Caroline and Mary Jane, I will warrant and forever defend unto the Said Edward C. Johnson his executors, administrators, and assigns against myself, my executors and administrators and against every other person or persons whomsoever. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my name and affixed my Seal this the 25th day of June 1856 Sophia C. Dunnock (seal) Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of A. H. Pennington Maryland Baltimore City, to wit: On this 25 day of June 1856 before the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Baltimore City appeared Sophia C. Dunnock and acknowledged the above bill of Sale to be her Act and deed and delivered for the purposes therein mentioned agreeably to the Acts of Assembly in Such cases made and provided.
