231 Fifty Six his Signed sealed and delivered Caleb x Todd (seal) in presence of mark D. W. Tyler her Elizabeth x Todd (seal) mark The State of Maryland Dorchester county to wit Be it Remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 10th day of July 1856 before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester county aforesaid personally appears caleb Todd and Elizabeth Todd his wife they being known to me to be the party grantors named in the within and aforegoing Bill of Sale and did Sign seal and acknowledge the Same to be their acts and deed and delivered the Same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and the said Elizabeth Todd wife of Caleb Todd did Sign seal and acknowledge the Same out of the presence and hearing of her said husband and did acknowledge and declare that she does sign seal and acknowledge the Same willingly and freely and without being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill usage by her said husband or fear of his displeasure and on the same day before me the Justice aforesaid personally appeared Major Todd grantee therein named in the aforegoing Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration mentioned in the within and aforegoing Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth acknowledged and sworn before D. W. Tyler John A. Hambleton & Be it remembered and it is hereby certified Thomas E. Hambleton Jr. that the following Mortgage Bill of Sale Paid From xd was received and recorded on the 9th day of Matthias Travers August in the year of our Lord 1856 to wit: I Mathias Travers of Dorchester County Maryland being now indebted to John A. Hambleton and Thomas E. Hambleton Jr. trading under the name & firm of John A. Hambleton & Brother of Baltimore city Maryland in the Sum of Three Hundred and Thirty one Dollars and Eighty Six cents with interest from the Seventh day of August Eighteen Hundred and fifty Six in consideration thereof do hereby bargain and sell to the Said John A. Hambleton and Thomas E. Hambleton Jr. trading under the name & firm of John A. Hambleton & Brother the following property one negro man named Thomas aged about Twenty three years a Slave to Serve until forty years of age Provided, that if I the Said Mathias Travers Shall pay to the Said John A. Hambleton and Thomas E. Hambleton Jr. trading under the name and firm of John A. Hambleton & Brother the Said Sum of Three Hundred and thirty one Dollars & Eighty Six cents with the interest thereon on or before the first day of October next then these presents shall be void Witness our hands and seals this Eighth day of August Eighteen Hundred and fifty Six M Travers (seal) Test Charles Corkran Thos.
