230 Elza Tull Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the Paid to xd following manumission was received and recorded on George Banks negro the 16th day of July Anno Domini 1856 to wit To all whom it may concerne be it known that I Elsey Tull master of in Dorchester county in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and consideration me thereunto moving have released from Slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery liberate manumit and set free my Nigrow man George Bankes being of the age of thirty four years and able to work and gain a Sufficient Livelihood and maintenance and him the Said Negrow man called George Bankes I do declaire to be hencefourth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of Service or Servitude to me my Executors or administrators forever. In witness whereof I do set my hand and seal this 2 day of February 1856 Elza Tull (seal) Witness Daniel Cannon Elijeh Connor State of Maryland Dorchester county to wit. On this 2 day of February 1856 before me Daniel Cannon a Justice of the Peace for Said county personally appeared Elsey Tull and acknowledged the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the acts of assembly in such cases made & provided Daniel Cannon J. P. Major Todd Be it remembered and it is hereby certified from that the following Bill of Sale was received Caleb Todd and and recorded on the 18th day of July 1856 to wit Elizabeth Todd his wife Know all men by these presents that we Caleb Todd and Elizabeth Todd his wife of Dorchester county and State of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Seven hundred dollars current money of Maryland to us in hand paid by Major Todd of the Said county and State before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said caleb Todd and Elizabeth Todd his wife have granted Bargained and sold conveyed and transferred and by these presents do grant Bargain and sell convey and transfer unto the Said Major Todd his heirs and assigns forever the following named negroes viz: Negro woman Hester aged twenty years and her boy child wesley aged twenty months or thereabouts both Slaves for life and now in the possession of Said Major Todd To Have and To Hold the above described negro woman Hester and Boy Wesley unto the Said Major Todd his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever and against us the Said Caleb Todd and Elizabeth Todd and our heirs and against all persons lawfully claiming or to claim the Said negroes woman Hester and Boy wesley unto the said Major Todd his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In testimony whereof the said caleb Todd and Elizabeth Todd his wife have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals this tenth day of July Eighteen hundred and |
