223 free my negro man named Thomas Henson being of the age of Thirty two years and able to work and gain a Sufficient Livelihood and maintenance and him the Said negro man named Thomas Henson I do declare to be henceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of Service or Servitude to me my executors or administrators forever In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and Seal this Seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty Six B. Bowdle State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it Remembered that on this 17th day of June 1856 Before the Subscriber a Justice of the peace for the State and county aforesaid personally appeared Benjamin Jenifer and acknowledged the above deed of manumission to be his act and according to the true intent purport and meaning thereof Sworn before S. W. Lecompte J. Peace In & for Dorchester county The State of Maryland Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that √ From the following Bond was received and recorded William Creighton & others on the 16th day of June 1856 to wit Know all men by these precepts that we William Creighton William Rea John R. Creighton of Dorchester county in the State of Maryland are held and bound unto the State of Maryland in the full and Just Sum of fifteen thousand dollars current money of the united States to be paid to the State of Maryland which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and every of us ours and every of our heirs Executors and administrators in the whole and for the whole Jointly and Severally by these precepts, Sealed with our Seals and dated this 16th June in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifty Six The Condition of the above obligations are such that if the above bounden Wm Creighton shall well and truly discharge the duties of treasurer of primary Schools of Dorchester county according to Law then the above above obligation Shall be void otherwise it is to be and remain in full force and virtue in Law Wm Creighton (seal) Signed in the presents of Edward F.
