222 Thomas of Dorchester county in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Seventy five Dollars current money to me in hand paid by Elizabeth Bristor free colored woman of Talbot county and State aforesaid at and before the Sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof I the Said William Thomas do hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto Elizabeth Bristor her executors administrators and assigns one negro man named Nathan Bristor aged about forty four years a Slave for life. To Have and to Hold the Said negro man named Nathan Bristor above bargained and sold or mentioned and intended so to be to the said Elizabeth Bristor her executors administrators and assigns forever. And I the Said William Thomas for myself my heirs executors and administrators all and Singular the Said negro above mentioned and other the premises unto the Said Elizabeth Bristor her executors administrators and assigns against me the Said William Thomas my heirs executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this Sixteenth day of June Eighteen Hundred and fifty Six. Signed Sealed & delivered William Thomas (seal) in the presence of Wm Rea Charles Corkran State of Maryland Dorchester County, to wit: Be it remembered that on this sixteenth day of June Eighteen Hundred and fifty Six before me the Subscriber a Justice of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester county aforesaid personally appeared William Thomas who is known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be the person or party to the within Bill of Sale or instrument of writing and acknowledged the Same to be his act and deed. At the Same time and place also personally appeared before me Justice of the Peace aforesaid. Elizabeth Bristor free colored woman the vendee in the within Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the consideration set forth in the Said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged and Sworn before Charles Corkran J. P. Delivered to Elizabeth Bristor June 17th 1856 Benjamin Jenifer Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that Paid to xd the following Deed of Manumission was received Thomas Henson and recorded on the 16th day of June 1856 to wit: To all whom it may concern be it Known that I Benjamin Jenifer of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving have released from Slavery, Liberated, manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from Slavery, Liberate manumit and set |
