209 Thomas B. Sherman Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the & Jacob Wilson following Mortgage Bill of Sale was received and recorded √ from xd on the 16th day of April in the year of our Lord John H. Hodson one Thousand Eight hundred and fifty Six, to wit: This Indenture made the 14th day of April in the year eighteen hundred and fifty six between John H. Hodson of Dorchester County and State of Maryland of the one part and Thomas B. Sherman and Jacob Wilson of the Said County and State of the other part Whereas the said John H. Hodson owes and stands justly indebted to the said Thomas B. Sherman and Jacob Wilson in the Sum of fifteen hundred dollars current money and to secure the payment thereof is willing to execute these presents Now this Indenture witnesseth that the Said John H. Hodson for and in consideration of the premises and of the Sum of five dollars current money to him in hand paid by the Said Thomas B. Sherman and Jacob Wilson at and before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the Said Thomas B. Sherman and Jacob Wilson their executors administrators and assigns the negroes hereinafter particularly mentioned and described that is to Say Negro woman Mariah aged thirty three years a Slave for life, Negro Girl Frances Ann aged thirteen years slave for life Negro Boy Tom aged eleven years slave for life To Have and To Hold the Said described negroes unto the Said Thomas B. Sherman and Jacob Wilson their executors administrators and assigns to their own use and behoof Provided always and it is declared to be the true intent and meaning of these presents that if the said John H. Hodson do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas H. Sherman and Jacob Wilson the full sum of fifteen hundred dollars current money with legal interest for the Same on or before the fourteenth day of April 1857 then and in such case these presents and every matter and thing therein contained shall cease determine and be utterly void to all intents and purposes anything herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding In Witness whereof the said John H. Hodson has hereto set his hand and seal the day and year above written Jno H. Hodson (seal) Signed Sealed & delivered in presence of S. W. Lecompte J. P. State of Maryland Dorchester County, to wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 14th day of April in the year eighteen hundred and fifty Six before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester county aforesaid personally appears John H. Hodson he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing deed or indenture and doth acknowledge the said indenture or instrument of writing to be his act and deed and at the same time also appeared before me the mortgages in the said indenture named and made oath that the consideration set forth in the said mortgage is true and bona fide as therein set forth.
