James Fooks                     Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the
       From   √  xd               following Bill of Sale was received and recorded on
Chas N Hammersley &      the Fifteenth day of April in the year of our
Wm N. Hammersley           Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty Six, To wit:
                                                                Know all men by these presents that we
Charles M. Hammersley and William N. Hammersley of Dorchester county
in the State of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Thirteen hundred
and Six dollars and forty four cents current money to us in hand paid by James
Fooks of the Said county and State at and before the sealing and delivering of
these presents the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge, have granted bargained
and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said James Fooks
his Executors administrators and assigns all the groceries, dry goods, hardware, boots
and shoes, hats and caps together with all and singular the goods chattels
wares and merchandise and effects now remaining and being in a certain Store
house heretofore occupied by us situate in the village of Church Creek in the
county aforesaid and now in the occupation of the said James Fooks   To
Have and To Hold all and singular the groceries dry goods, hardware boots
and shoes hats and caps, goods, ....... chattels, wares merchandises and effects
and all other the premises unto the said James Fooks his Executors administrators
and assigns forever; and we the Said Charles M. Hammersley and William
N. Hammersley for ourselves our heirs executors and administrators all and
singular the said groceries, dry goods, hardware, boots and shoes, hats and caps,
goods, chattels, wares merchandizes and effects and all other the premises unto
the Said James Fooks his heirs executors administrators and assigns against
us the Said Charles M. Hammersley and William N. Hammersley our
administrators executors and assigns and against all and every other person
or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these
presents               In Testimony whereof we hereunto set our hands and seals
this Seventh day of April 1856                      Chas. M. Hammersley   (seal)

state of Maryland Dorchester County to wit:      Be it remembered and it is
hereby certified that on this 15th day of April 1856 before the Subscriber one of
the Justices of the peace of the State of Maryland in and for the county and
State aforesaid personally appears Charles M. Hammersley and William N.
Hammersley they being known to me to be the persons who are named and
described as and professing to be parties grantors to the foregoing deed or
indenture and do acknowledge the Said indenture or instrument of writing
to be their act and deed.      And at the Same time and place also appeared
James Fooks the grantee in the said indenture or bill of sale named and
made oath that the consideration set forth in the said bill of Sale is true
and bona fide as therein set forth   In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe
my name on the day and year aforesaid                        J. W. Lecompte J. P.
