201 same County and State aforesaid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof I the said Reubin E. Phillips do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Thomas Bennett his Executors administrators & assigns One negro Woman Amanda Light aged about twenty three years and her Child boy Edward aged about ten months slaves for life sound & healthy. To Have and To Hold the said negro Woman Amanda Light & her son Edward release bargain and sold or mentioned and intended so to be to the said Thomas Bennett his Executors and administrators and assigns forever. In Witness Whereof the said Reubin E. Phillips hath hereunto set his hand and seal this 15th day of January 1856. Signed sealed & delivered in the presence of R. E. Phillips (seal) Charles Corkran Maryland Dorchester County Sct. On the 15th day of January 1856 Then Came before me a Justice of the Peace Thomas Bennett and made oath that the Consideration within named is just and true & bona fide as therein stated; and at the same time Came Reubin E. Phillips and acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be his act and deed and delivered for the uses & purposes therein mentioned. Sworn Before James W. Wright J. P. 1856 January 26th Received of Thomas Bennett one Dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of Sale F. J. Henry Clk John Twilley Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale Paid from 6 was received and recorded on the 29th day of January Anno Domini 1856 to wit: Thomas J. Sard Know all men by these presents that I Thomas J Sards of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of Ninety three Dollars and twenty seven Cents Current money to me in hand paid by John Twilley of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said John Twilley his heirs and assigns the following property, to wit: One Bay Horse John, 2 Heiffer yearlings, 12 head hogs, one ox Cart, one lot Corn, one lot pork & one lot blade fodder, farming utensils, Household and Kitchen furniture. To Have and To Hold the above described property as above bargained and sold unto the said John Twilley his heirs, Executors, administrators and assigns agains me the said Thomas J. Sard my heirs Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend. In Testimony Whereof, I, Thomas J. Sard have hereto set my hand and affixed seal this twenty ninth day of January Eighteen Hundred and fifty six. Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of Thomas J. Sard (seal) James Moobray Maryland Dorchester County to wit: On the twenty ninth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty six personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace in and for said County the within named Thomas J. Sard and acknowledged the within Bill of Sale to be his act and deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same; and at the same time came before me John Twilley within mentioned and made oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and Bona fide as therein set forth according to the act of Assembly made and provided.
