Mills and Lydia M his Wife for ourselves our heirs Executors and administrators all and singular the said negroes Maria and Martha and other the premises and the said Rebecca Wheeler her executors administrators and assigns against us the said Henry J. Hubbard Thomas C. Bennett and Mary his wife, James H. Mills and Lydia M. his wife our Executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In Witness Whereof the said Henry J. Hubbard. Thomas C. Bennett and Mary Bennett his wife James H. Mills and Lydia M. Mills his wife have hereunto set their hands and seals this fifteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty six. Signed sealed and delivered Henry J. Hubbard (seal) in the presence of Thomas C. Bennett (seal) James N. Wright J. P. James H. Mills (seal) Mary A. Bennett (seal) Lydia M x Mills (seal) State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this fifteenth day of January Eighteen hundred and fifty six before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for the County and State aforesaid personally appeared Henry J. Hubbard Thomas C. Bennett & James H. Mills parties to the within Bill of Sale and acknowledged the same to be their act respective act and deed At the same time personally appeared before me the Justice aforesaid the said Mary Bennett wife of the said Thomas C. Bennett and Lydia M. Mills wife of the said James H. Mills and out of the presence and hearing of their respective husbands did sign seal and execute the within and aforegoing Bill of Sale and acknowledge the same to be their act and deed And the said Mary Bennett and Lydia M. Mills being by me privately examined apart from and out of the hearing of their respective husbands whether they do execute and make their acknowledgment of the same Bill of Sale willingly and freely and without being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill usage by their respective husbands or fear of their displeasure acknowledge that they do execute and make their acknowledgment of the same Bill of Sale willingly and freely and without being induced to do so by fear or threats of or ill usage by their said husbands or fear of their displeasure. And I do further Certify that of my own knowledge I am satisfied that the said Henry J. Hubbard Thomas C. Bennett and Mary Bennett his wife James H. Mills and Lydia M. Mills his Wife who make the above acknowledgments are the same persons who are named & described as and professing to be parties grantors in the within and aforegoing Bill of Sale. At the same time and place also appeared before me Rebecca Wheeler the party grantee within named in the said Bill of Sale and made oath that the Consideration set forth in the said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. In Testimony Whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day & year aforesaid James N. Wright J. P.
