Executors Administrators and Assigns forever and I the said Daniel James for
myself my Heirs Executors and Administrators the said negro Boy Levin until the
said Robert F. Tubman his Executors Administrators and assigns against me the said
Daniel James my Executors and Administrators and against all and every other Person
or Persons whatsoever Shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents I
the said Daniel James have put the said Robert F. Tubman in full possession by delivering
to him the said Robert F. Tubman the said negro Boy Levin at the sealing and delivering
of these presents in the name of the whole premises hereby Bargained and sold or
mentioned and intended to be so unto him the said Robert F. Tubman as aforesaid

    In Witness whereof I affix my hand and seal this first Day of January 1856

    Dorchester County Sct.   Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that
on this 22nd day of January 1856 personally appeared before me the subscriber
a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County
the within named Daniel N. James party grantor in the above Bill of Sale
or instrument of writing and acknowledged the same to be his act and
Deed according to the purport true intent and meaning of the same at the
same time Came before me Doctr. R. F. Tubman party grantee in the above Bill
of Sale or Instrument of writing and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of
Almighty God that the consideration set forth in this Bill of Sale is true and
Bona fide as therein set forth
                            Acknowledged and sworn before         Charles Corkran J. P.

1856 January 22nd  Received of Doctr. R. F. Tubman one dollar in lieu of a
stamp on this Bill of Sale

Rebecca Wheeler      Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Bill of Sale
Paid   from   Ex.d      was received and recorded on the 26th day of January Anno Domini 1856 to wit:
Henry J. Hubbard      Know all men by these presents that we Henry J. Hubbard Thomas
and Others                C. Bennett and Mary Bennett his wife James H. Mills and Lydia M.
                                 Mills his wife of Dorchester County in the State of Maryland for and in
Consideration of the sum of Eight Hundred Dollars Current money of Maryland to us in
hand paid by Rebecca Wheeler of the same County and State aforesaid at and before
the sealing and delivering of these presents the receipt whereof we the said Henry J. Hubbard
Thomas C. Bennett and Mary his wife James H Mills and Lydia M his wife do
hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and
sell unto the said Rebecca Wheeler his heirs Executors administrators and assigns the following
negroes to wit: one negro woman named Maria aged about twenty nine years a slave for life
and her Child Martha aged about two years a slave for life the said negroes Maria and
Martha are sold to the said Rebecca Wheeler to remain in the State of Maryland and
not to be carried beyond the limits of said State.  To Have and To Hold the said negroes Maria
and Martha as above bargained and sold or mentioned or intended so to be to the said Rebecca Wheeler
her heirs Executors administrators and assigns forever.  And we the said Henry J. Hubbard, Thomas
