183 On this 28th of Sept. 1855 personally appears George W. Jones and made Oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God that the above bill of Sale is a true and bona fide bill of sale and the consideration therein mentioned is Just and true as set forth in said paper Sworn before W.m R. Tall (seal) 1855 October 8th: Received of George W. Jones Esq the Sum of One Dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale Francis J. Henry Clk Henry Cook Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that the following Bill of Sale Paid from was received and recorded on the 16th day of October in the year of our Thomas Jones Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and fifty five to wit: Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Jones of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of Two Hundred dollars lawful money of the united states in hand paid by Henry Cook of Baltimore city and state aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Henry Cook his executors administrators and assigns a certain Negro boy called John aged about Six years old a slave for life To Have and To Hold the said described Boy John unto the said Henry Cook his Executors administrators and assigns forever and I the said Thomas Jones for my self heirs executors & administrators the said Boy John unto the said Henry Cook his executors administrators and assigns against me the said Thomas Jones my executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof I the said Thomas Jones have hereunto set my hand and seal this 11th day of October Eighteen hundred and fifty five signed sealed and delivered Thomas Jones (seal) in presents of A. H. Pennington State of Maryland Baltimore City to wit be it remembered this on this 11th day of October 1855 before the subscriber a Justice of the peace for said city appears Thomas Jones and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof and acts of Assembly in such Case made and provided Also appeared Henry Cook grantee named in the within Indenture or Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration therein expressed is bona fide true as is therein set forth. In Testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name A. H. Pennington J. P. State of Maryland Baltimore City, Sct: I hereby Certify that Augstine H. Penington Esquire before whom the annexed acknowledgment & affidavit were made and who has thereto subscribed his name was at the time of so doing a Justice of the Peace of the state of Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore duly Commissioned and sworn In Testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and affix the seal of the (Seal) superior Court of Baltimore City this 11th day of October A.
