182 of all and singular which said negro Levin Triger I the said B. Gaither Tubman have put the said Daniel N. James in full possession at the sealing and delivering of these presents in the name of the whole premises hereby bargained and sold or mentioned and intended to be so unto him the Said Daniel N. James as aforesaid. In witness whereof I hereunto sign my name and affix my seal this 18th day of September eighteen hundred and fifty five B. Gaither Tubman (seal) Test W.m D. Barrow State of Maryland Dorchester County sct: Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this 18th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and fifty five before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appeared Benjamin B. Tubman he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be the party grantor to the foregoing Deed or Indenture and doth acknowledge the said Indenture or Instrument of writing to be his act & deed. And also at the Same time and place personally appeared Daniel N. James party grantee and made Oath that the consideration Expressed in this Bill of Sale is true and Bona fide. In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid W.m D Barrow 1855 October 1st: Received of Daniel N. James one Dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale F. J. Henry Clk George W. Jones Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following paid from xd Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 8 day of October in the Thomas Jones year of our Lord 1855 To wit: Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Jones of W.m of Dorchester County and State of Marylad. for the consideration of the sum of Three Hundred and seventy five dollars current money to me in hand paid by George W. Jones of the County and State aforesaid the recpt. whereof I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained sold and delivered and by these presents do grant bargain sell and deliver unto the said George W. Jones a negro girl named Caroline age 8 years or thereabouts and a Negro boy named John aged 5 years or thereabouts both Slaves for life which said property I will warrant and defend to the said george W. Jones his Executors administrators and assigns agt. me my Executors administrators and agt. every other person or persons whomsoever In witness whereof we have hereunto set our names and affixed our seals this 28th day of september in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty five Signed sealed & Delivered Thos. Jones (seal) in the presence of W.m R. Tall State of Maryland Dorchester County, to wit: On this this 28th day of sept. 1855 before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace in and for Said County and State personally appear Thos. Jones and acknowledge the above bill of Sale or instrument of writing to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof Acknowledged before W.m R. Tall (seal) |
