184 Henry Cook Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Paid from Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 16th day of October in the Thomas Jones year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty five, To wit: (stamp) ( one ) Know all men by these presents that I Thomas Jones of Dorchester (Dollar) County and state of Maryland for and in consideration of the Sum of Three Hundred dollars lawful money of the united States in hand paid by Henry Cook of Baltimore City and state aforesaid at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said Henry Cook his executors administrators and assigns a certain Negro girl called susan about sixteen years and six months old on the first day of May last ht Said girl to serve till October the first 1868 or untill she shall arrive at the age of Thirty years as will be found by refference to a deed of manumission recorded in Cambridge Dorchester County Eastern Shore of maryland To have and To hold the said described girl susan unto the said Henry Cook for and during the term of Thirteen years and Six months from first day of May of the present year 1855 and I the said Thomas Jones for myself my heirs Executors and administrators the said black girl susan unto the said Henry Cook his executors administrators and assigns against me the said Thomas Jones my executors and administrators and against all and every other person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day of October Eighteen hundred and fifty five signed sealed and delivered Thomas Jones (seal) in presents of Henry Cook (seal) A. H. Penington City of Baltimore State of Maryland to wit: Be it remembered that on this 11th day of October 1855 before the subscriber a Justice of the Peace for said City appears Thomas Jones & Henry Cook and acknowledges the above instrument of writing to be their act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof at the Same time also appeared Henry Cook grantee named in the before going bill of sale and made Oath on the holy Evangely of Almighty god that the consideration therein set forth is true and bona fide as set forth Acknowledged and sworn before A.H. Penington J. P. State of Maryland Baltimore city, sct. I hereby Certify that Augustine H. Penington Esquire before whom the annexed acknowledgments & affidavit were made and who has thereto subscribed his name was at the time of so doing a Justice of the Peace of the State of Maryland in and for the City of Baltimore, duly Commissioned and Sworn In Testimony whereof I hereto set my hand and affix the seal of the (Seal) Superior Court of Baltimore City this 11th day of October A.
