161 Signed sealed and delivered Samuel Travers (seal) in the presence W.m W. Pattison Clara Travers State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this Eleventh day of May Eighteen hundred & fifty five before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the State of Maryland in & for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appears Samuel Travers he being known to me to be the person who is named and described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing deed of manumission & doth acknowledge the Said deed or instrument of writing to be his act & deed. In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid W.m W. Pattison J. P. William Howith Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following √ from xd Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 28th day of Hooper C. Hicks April in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty five to wit: Know all men by these presents that I Hooper C. Hicks of Dorchester County state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of Three Hundred & Twelve Dollars Current money to men in hand paid or secured to be paid by William Howeth of Dorchester County state of Maryland have granted bargained & sold & by these presents do bargain grant and sell Negro Girl Caroline unto the said William Howith his heirs & executors or assigns the said negro girl having to serve according to the will of Aaron Cook to the full end & term of twenty four years from the 21st day of December in the year Eighteen Hundred & Forty Two it being all the right title and estate of the said Hooper C. Hicks of in & to the said negro girl sold by him for the remaining time of said girls service. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands & seals this 7 day of April in the year Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Five Hooper C. Hicks & William Howeth being known to me to be the persons professing to be parties to the aforegoing instrument of writing & acknowledge the Said to be their act & deed for the purposes therein mentioned at the same time appeared William Howeth and made Oath on the Holy Evangelist of Almighty God that the Consideration therein Contained and expressed is true & bona fide Sworn before Samuel Keys J. P. William K. Traverse Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that √ To x.d the following Deed of Manumission was received and Negroes Anna William recorded on the 5th day of June 1855 To wit: Abel & Mary Jane To all whom it may Concern be it known that I William K. Traverse of Dorchester County in the state of Maryland for divers good causes and considerations me thereunto moving |
