162 have released from slavery liberated manumitted and set free and by these presents do hereby release from slavery liberate manumit and set free my negro woman named Anna Hooper being of the age of forty four years years and her two Children viz: William Abel Hooper aged about twelve years and Mary Jane Hooper aged about fourteen years and abel to work and gain a sufficient livelihood and maintenance and her the said negro woman Anna Hooper & children William Abel & Mary Jane I do declare to be thenceforth free manumitted and discharged from all manner of service or servitude to me my executors or administrators forever. In Witness whereof the said William H. Traverse has hereunto set his hand and seal this twenty Eighth day of May Eighteen hundred and fifty five Signed sealed & delivered W. K. Travers (seal) in the presence of W. Travers John H. Travers State of Maryland Dorchester County sct Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on this twenty Eighth day of May Eighteen hundred & fifty five before me the subscriber one of the justices of the peace of the State of Maryland in & for Dorchester County aforesaid personally appears W.m H. Travers he being known to me to be the person who is named & described as and professing to be a party to the foregoing deed of Manumission and doth acknowledge the said Deed or instrument of writing to be his act and deed. In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day and year aforesaid W.m W. Pattison J. P. James A. Stewart Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the √ from x.d following Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the Harrison D. Barnett 9th day of June 1835 To wit: & Eliza Rawleigh (stamp) Know all men by these presents that we Harrison ( one ) D. Barnett & Eliza ( Dol ) Rawleigh of Dorchester county and state of Maryland for and in consideration of the sum of six Hundred Dollars to the said Harrison D. Barnett in hand paid by James A. Stewart of same county & state the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said James A. Stewart his heirs Exors admrs. & assigns the following negro slave called "Caroline" a girl about sixteen years of age and slave for life and sound in body & mind & now in the possession of the said Harrison D. Barnett To Have & to hold the said negro above bargained and sold to the said James A. Stewart his heirs Exors & admrs. & assigns forever In Witness whereof we hereto subscribe our names & affix our seals this 6th day of June 1855 H. D.
