151 Levin R. Mcnamara Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following √ From xd Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 20th day of March John Elliott admr. of in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Jason Elliott Fifty five to wit: Know all men by these presents that I John Elliott administrator of Jason Elliott of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of four hundred and thirty six dollars Current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by Levin R. Mcnamara of the said County and State before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said John Elliot administrator of Jason Elliott by order of the orphans court of said County has granted Bargained and sold Conveyed and transferred and by these presents doth grant Bargain sell Convey and transfer unto the said Levin R. Mcnamara his heirs and assigns forever one negro man named Handy aged about forty seven years a slave for life and now in the possession of the said Levin R. Mcnamara. To Have and To Hold the above described negro man Handy unto the said Levin R. Mcnamara his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever against me the said John Elliott admr. of Jason Elliott and my heirs and against all persons whatsoever claiming the said negro man Handy. In testimony whereof the said John Elliott admr. of Jason Elliott has hereunto subscribed his name and affixed his seal this the twentieth day of March Eighteen hundred and fifty five John Elliott admr. (seal) Signed Sealed and delivered of Jason Elliott in presence of D. W. Tyler The State of Maryland. Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on the twentieth day of March in the year Eighteen hundred and fifty five. Before the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace in and for said County personally appeared John Elliott admr. of Jason Elliott the party grantor in the within and aforegoing Bill of Sale and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and on the same day before me as aforesaid personally appeared Levin R. Mcnamara gratee named in the aforegoing Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration mentioned in the aforegoing Bill of Sale is true and Bona fide as therein set forth Acknowledged and Sworn before D. W. Tyler 1855 March 22d Received of Levin R. Mcnamara the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this BIll of Sale F. J.
