149 1855 February 26th: Received of George H. Meekins the sum of one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this Bill of Sale F. J. Henry clk Edward K. Bramble Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following √ To xd Indenture of Apprenticeship was received and recorded on the Ann Cornish (negro girl) 26th day of February in the year of our Lord 1855 To wit: This Indenture Witnesseth; That by virtue of an act of the General Assembly of Maryland passed December Session Eighteen hundred and thirty nine Chapter thirty five entitled "an act to provide for the better regulation of free negro and Mullatto children within this State I Edward K. Bramble have agreed in presence of James Dixon and Zadock H. Rosse justices of the Orphans Court for Dorchester County who have testified their assent by witnessing this indenture that I will take as apprentice negro girl Ann Cornish daughter of Roger Cornish and Ann his wife aged ten years on the eighteenth day of the present month to serve as an apprentice until she attains the age of Sixteen years and I agree to furnish and provide for said apprentice good and sufficient meat drink clothing lodging and other requisite necessaries fit for such an apprentice and further to teach and instruct said Ann the art or trade of Housewifery by the best way or means I Can and when the said Ann Cornish shall arrive at the age of sixteen years I promise to give her the sum of ten dollars in Cash and the further sum of twenty five dollars in lieu of schooling for said apprentice Witness my hand and Seal February 26th A. D. 1855 Signed Sealed and delivered Edward K. Bramble (seal) in presence of James Dixon Zadock H. Rosse Justices of the Orphans Court Deld to Edwd K Bramble April 2d 1956 Washington A. Smith Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following paid from Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 26th William Patridge day of March 1855 To wit Know all men by these presents that I William Patridge have this day bargained sold and conveyed unto Washington A. Smith One negro boy "John Kane" aged about Eighteen years to serve until he arrive at the age of Thirty ("and then to be free" as per the the last will of the late Elizabeth Patridge now on record in the Register's office for Dorchester County Maryland) the said Washington A. Smith his heirs and assigns for the sum of Three Hundred Dollars in hand paid As Witnessed my hand and seal this 22.nd February 1855. Acknowledged and sworn before his W.m W. Pattison William x Patridge (seal) mark Washington A. Smith (seal) Maryland Dorchester County to wit On this 22d day of February Eighteen Hundred and Fifty five personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the Peace in and for Said County William Patridge and acknowledged the above Bill of Sale to be his act and deed according to the true intent and meaning thereof. And at the same time personally appeared Washington A. Smith grantee to above named Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration set forth in Said Bill of Sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth Delivered March 26th 1855 to Washington A.
