122 State of Maryland Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that ^the following Bond was received and recorded^ on this 3.d day √ from xd of July 1854 to wit: John E. Applegarth (Stamp) Know all men by these presents That we John E. Applegarth Col. of County Charges & sureties (Six) Richard H. Tubman, Levin L. Keene, George H Meekins, George (Dollars) Wallace and Edward C. Johnson of Dorchester County, in the State of Maryland are held and firmly bound unto the State of Maryland in the fill and Just Sum of Fifty Seven thousand one hundred & Seventy five dollars and twenty six Cents Current money of the United States to be paid to the Said State or its Certain Attorney to the which payment well and truly to be made and done we bind ourselves and Each of us our and each of our heirs executors and administrators jointly and Severally firmly by these presents, Sealed with our Seals and dated this third day of July in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and fifty four. The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden John E. Applegarth appointed Collector of Dorchester County shall well and faithfully execute his office and the several duties required of him by law ^by law^ and shall well and truly account for and pay to the County Commissioners for Dorchester County or their order, the several sums of money which he shall receive or be answerable for by law at such time as the law shall direct then the above obligation to be void or else to be and remain in full force and virtue in law John E. Applegarth Signed Sealed and delivered R. H. Tubman (seal) in the presence of Levin L. Keene (seal) John T. Stewart Levin P. Cook George H. Meekins (seal) George Wallace (seal) Edward C. Johnson (seal) Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered that on the third day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four personally appeared John T. Stewart & Levin P. Cook the two of Subscribing witnesses to the above bond before me the Subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the State of Maryland in & for Dorchester County aforesaid and severally made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that they did see John E. Applegarth Richard H. Tubman, Levin L. Keene, George H. Meekins, George Wallace and Edward C. Johnson obligors in the said bond Sign, Seal and deliver the said bond as their respective act and deed and that they the said John T. Stewart & Levin P. Cook did Subscribe their names as witnesses thereto Sworn before W.m D. Barrow By the County Commissioners for Dorchester County July the 3d 1854 This bond Examined and approved by order William Rea clerk C. D. C. Hagar Brannock Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following Paid from xd Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 20th day of July 1854 to wit: John Griffith Know all men by these presents that I John Griffith of the City of Baltimore and State of Maryland, for and in Consideration of the Sum of Three hundred dollars Current money to me in hand paid by Hagar Brannock Coloured woman of Dorchester County and State of Maryland have granted bargained and Sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said Hagar Brannock her heirs and assigns negro man Simon Brannock aged between fifty and Sixty years slave for life and |
