110 personally appears James E. Douglass he being known to me to be the person who is named & described as & professing to be the party grantor to the foregoing Deed or indenture & doth acknowledge the Said Bill of Sale Indenture or Instrument of writing to be his act & Deed In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name on the day & year aforesaid W.m D. Barrow State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit On this thirteenth day of April 1854 personally appeared before me the subscriber a Justice of the peace for the Said State & County Thomas W. Byns party grantee in the foregoing Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration mentioned therein is bona fide. Just & true to the best of his Knowledge & belief W.m R. Tall J. P. Received the 25th day of April 1854 of Thomas W. Byns the sum of one Dollar in lieu of a Stamp on this Bill of Sale F. J. Henry Clk Severn Johnson Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that the following √ from xd Bill of Sale was received and recorded on the 25th day of April John W. Hayward 1854 to wit Know all men by these presents that I John H. Hayward administrator of Alexander Simmons of Dorchester County and State of Maryland for and in Consideration of the sum of twelve hundred dollars Current money of Maryland to me in hand paid by Severn Johnson of the said County and state before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged the said John W. Hayward administrator of Alexander Simmons by order of the orphan's Court of Dorchester County has granted bargained and Sold Conveyed and transfered and by these presents doth grant Bargain and sell Convey and transfer unto the said Severn Johnson his heirs and assigns forever two negroes that is to Say one negro man John aged twenty five years or thereabouts and one negro girl named Jane aged twenty years or thereabouts both Slaves for life and now in the possession of the said Severn Johnson To Have and To Hold the above described negro man John and negro girl Jane unto the said Severn Johnson his heirs and assigns forever and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever against me the said John W. Hayward administrator of Alexander Simmons and my heirs and against all persons whatsoever Claiming the Said negroes John and Jane In testimony whereof the said John W. Hayward has hereunto set his name and affixed his seal this the twenty second day of April Eighteen hundred and fifty four Signed sealed and delivered John W. Hayward (seal) in presence of administrator of D. W. Tyler Alexander Simmons The State of Maryland Dorchester County to wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby Certified that on the twenty second day of April in the year eighteen hundred and fifty four personally appeared John W. Hayward administrator of alexr Simmons party grantor in the within and aforegoing Bill of Sale and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and delivered the same for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and on the Same day before me as aforesaid personally appeared Severn Johnson grantee named in the aforegoing Bill of Sale and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God that the Consideration mentioned in the aforegoing Bill of Sale is true and Bona fide as |
