Charter Amendment
Resolution No: 2002-06
WHEREAS, Article VII, Section 714 of the Charter of the Town of Kensington
has limitations of content that hinder the ability of the Town to carry out its
mandated functions;
WHEREAS, the Charter amendment to Article VII, Section 714 has been
developed by the Council to improve the governance of the Town;
WHEREAS, Article VII, Section 714 is amended to fill a vacancy in the office of
Mayor the same way as a vacancy of the Council, by special election if the vacancy
occurs ninety days or more prior to the end of the term;
[Section 714 of Article VII of the Charter of the Town of Kensington,
Montgomery County, as found in the Public Local Laws of Maryland - Compilation of
Municipal Charters (1990 Replacement Edition and 2000 Supplement), repealed and
reenacted, with amendments.

WHEREAS, Article IX, Section 910 of the Charter of the Town of Kensington has
limitations of content that hinder the ability of the Town to carry out its mandated
functions;
WHEREAS, the Charter amendment to Article IX, Section 910 has been
developed by the Council to improve the governance of the Town;
WHEREAS, Article IX, Section 910 is deleted in its entirely ["The Mayor, with
the approval of the Council, may appoint a health officer, who shall be a licensed
physician who shall safeguard the health of the Town and who may make
recommendations to the Mayor and Council on health issues."];
