86. and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain & sell unto the said John Stanley Jones, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, one negro man named Reuben, and belonging to the estate of the aforesaid Col. John Jones deces.d for the full time or term of nine years from the first day of March Eighteen hundred and forty eight, that being the period of time the said Reuben has to serve, at the expiration of which time or term of servitude, the said negro man Reuben is then to be free. To have and to hold the said negro man Reuben unto the said John Stanley Jones, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, to his and their own use and benefit, during all the said time or term of servitude above mentioned and no longer. Now the said parties to this Indenture fully agree to all the matters and conditions set forth in this Indenture or bill of sale. In Witness whereof the said Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. as Executors aforesaid, and John Stanley Jones aforesaid, have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the day and year first herein before written Witness present Tho.s C. Jones (seal) James Hammersly John Jones of Col. (seal) Alex.r W. Jones John S. Jones (seal) State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit: Be it remembered and it is hereby certified that on this twenty fourth day of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, before me the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace of the state of Maryland in and for Dorchester County, personally appeared Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors of ^Col.^ John Jones of Col. dec.d aforesaid, together with John Stanley Jones, who did acknowledge the aforegoing Indenture or bill of sale, to be their Act and deed, according to the purport, true intent and meaning of the same, and the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided: And at the same time and place, before me the Justice of the Peace aforesaid, personally appeared Thomas C. Jones and John JOnes of Col. Executors as aforesaid, and grantees in the said bill of sale and made Oath that the consideration set forth in the said bill of sale is true and bona fide as therein set forth. Acknowledged and sworn before James Hammersly Received April 3.d 1848 of John Stanley Jones one dollar in lieu of a stamp on this bill of sale. Wm Jackson Clk |
