of servitude the said Mary is then to be free.  To have and to hold the
said Negro Girl Mary unto the said John Jones of Col. his Executors, Administrators
and Assigns, to his and their own use and benefit, during all the
said time or term of servitude above mentioned and no longer.  Now the said
parties to this Indenture fully agree to all the matters and conditions set
forth in this Indenture or bill of sale.  In Witness whereof the said Thomas
C. Jones and John Jones of Col. as Executors aforesaid, and John Jones of
Col. aforesaid, have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the
day and year first herein before written.

State of Maryland, Dorchester County, To wit:  Be it remembered
and it is hereby Certified that on this         day of          in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, before me
the subscriber one of the Justices of the peace of the state of Maryland
in and for Dorchester County, personally appeared Thomas C. Jones and
John Jones of Col. Executors of Col. John Jones deceased, aforesaid,
together with John Jones of Col., who did Acknowledge the aforegoing
Indenture or bill of sale to be their Act and deed, according to
the purport, true intent and meaning of the same, and the Acts of
Assembly in such cases made & provided:  And at the same time
an place before me the Justice of the Peace aforesaid, personally
appeared Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors as aforesaid,
and grantees in the said bill of sale and made Oath that the
consideration set forth in the said bill of sale is true and bona
fide as therein set forth.      Acknowledged before

John S. Jones               Be it remembered that the following Bill of sale
85      from      Ex.d      was recorded on the 3.d day of April 1848, To wit:
Tho. C. Jones &          This Indenture made this twenty fourth day of
John Jones of Col.        March in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight
                                    hundred and forty eight, between Thomas C. Jones &
John Jones of Col. Executors of ^Col^ John Jones, and both of Dorchester County
state of Maryland of the one part, and John Stanley Jones, of McKeels
point, Dorchester County state of Maryland, of the other part, Witnesseth
that the said Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors as
aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred and
seventy dollars, current money, to them in hand paid by the said
John Stanley Jones, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents,
the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained
