83 year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace of the State of Maryland, in & for Dorchester County, personally appeared Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors of Col. John Jones deceased aforesaid, together with William F. Jones, who did Acknowledge the aforegoing Indenture or bill of sale to be their Act and deed, according to the purport, true intent & meaning of the same, and the Acts of Assembly in such case made and provided: And at the same time & place before me, the Justice of the Peace aforesaid, personally appeared William F. Jones, grantee in the said bill of sale, and made Oath that the consideration set forth in the said bill of sale is true and Bona Fide as therein set forth. Acknowledged before James Craig (Seal) Thomas Woolford Sen.r Be it remembered that the following Bill of 85 from Ex.d sale was recorded on the 3.d day of April 1848. Tho. C. Jones & This Indenture made this twenty first day John Jones of Col. of March in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, between Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors of Col. John Jones deceased, both of Dorchester County state of Maryland, of the one part, and Thomas Woolford Sen.r, a resident of Woolford's Creek in said County and state, of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said Thomas C. Jones and John Jones of Col. Executors as aforesaid, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred & fifty dollars, current money, to them in hand paid by the said Thomas Woolford Sen.r, at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain & sell unto the said Thomas Woolford Sen.r, his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, one Negro Man named Ben or Benjamin for the unexpired time or term of his servitude, said Negro Ben or Benjamin belonging to the Estate of the aforementioned Col. John Jones deceased, for the full time or term of six years from the first day of March one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, that being the period of time the said Ben or Benjamin has to serve, at the expiration of which time or term of servitude, the said Negro Ben or Benjamin is then to be free. To have and to hold the said Negro Man Ben or Benjamin unto the said Thomas Woolford Sen.r his Executors, Administrators and Assigns, to his and their own use and benefit during all the said time or term above mentioned, and no longer. Now the said parties full agree to all the matters and conditions set forth in this Indenture or bill of sale. In Witness whereof the said Thomas C. Jones & John Jones of Col. |
