State of Maryland City of Baltimore, To wit:  On this 29 day
of March 1848, before the subscriber, one of the Justices of the Peace of
the state of Maryland, in and for the City aforesaid, personally appeared
Henry Hubbard and made Oath on the Holy Evangely of Almighty God
that the consideration money mentioned in the within Bill of sale
has been bona fide paid.      Sworn to before

Dennis Scye               Be it remembered that the following Bill of sale
Ex.d   from      65      was recorded on the 3.d day of April 1848, To wit:
James B. Steele         Whereas on or about the Eighth day of April in the
                                 year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & forty
five, I James B. Steele sold to Dennis Scye (a free Negro of Dorchester
County) his Wife Sarah Scye, and also his children Hooper Scye &
Milley Scye, and Whereas the purchase money for the said Sarah
Scye, Hooper Scye & Milley Scye has now been paid to me in full by the
said Dennis Scye, and I am desirous to convey to him, a clear and
indisputable title to the servants above enumerated - Now know
all men by these presents that I James B. Steele of Dorchester County
and state of Maryland, for and in consideration of the price or purchase
Money, (the agregate of which purchase Money I do not now recollect) to
me in hand heretofore paid, by the said Dennis Scye, free Negro as
aforesaid, the receipt of which I do hereby acknowledge, have granted,
bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell &
deliver unto the said Dennis Scye his aforesaid wife, Sarah Scye &
Hooper Scye and Milley Scye his children, which said servants I the
said James B. Steele hereby warrant and defend to the said Dennis Scye,
his executors, Administrators and Assigns, against me my executors &
Administrators, and against every other person or persons whomsoever.
In Witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this third day of
April in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty
eight.

Maryland Dorchester County, sc.t  Be it remembered & it is hereby certified
that on this third day of April in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and forty eight, before the subscriber one of the state of Maryland's
Justices of the Peace in and for Dorchester County, personally
appears James B. Steele and Acknowledges the aforegoing Bill of sale
or instrument of writing to be his Act and deed for the purposes
therein mentioned.      Acknowledged before         Jn.o E. Roszell   J. P.
